Winter season in Finnish Rally Championship series ended in Pohjanmaa Rally, which was third round of the 2015 season. Seinäjoki-based event was run for two days, and Joonas Tokee took class lead in the start of second day.
SM3-class for R2 rally cars has become popular among young Finnish drivers. Joonas Tokee and co-driver Jani Salo are competing their second season with Peugeot 208 R2 and now reached their first victory in FRC level.
Orivesi resident 20-year-old Tokee was in fourth place and 9,3 seconds behind the leader after the first day.
– I wasn´t happy with my performance on those first stages, which were run late in the evening in the darkness. But on the following day all went really well. I managed to take the lead immediately and after that I could control and keep suitable gap to the others.
– Still it was a tough day as soft and slushy road conditions offered challenges to everybody. I had to be careful until the finish as I didn´t choose totally right tyres for these conditions.
– We had a target to achieve a class victory during the winter season and now we made it. We were quite close for winning the first event too, but now it was sweet to win here in my co-driver’s home area, Tokee informed.
Eventually Tokee and Salo took a clear victory as second-placed Taisko Lario was 34,6 seconds behind and third in class was Ville-Markus Marttinen +48,4 seconds.
Tokee also raised in points table; he is now second and only 2,5 points away from the top.
